¶ Miss Potter
Last night we watched Miss Potter with the kids and liked it much more than I had anticipated. The opening sequence, especially, made me long for a studio of my own and a limitless supply of materials: paintbrushes, watercolors, paper, pens, ink. I suppose I have a virtually limitless supply now, but it just doesn’t seem the same, and my mass produced, plastic items don’t have nearly the same warmth and beauty of the wood, metal, and hair that Beatrix Potter used.
There’s a shot of the binder packaging up her second book to ship off to booksellers. They are stacked by hand, wrapped in brown paper, and tied with string. Few things are a compelling to me a a uniform stack of books wrapped in paper.
